Trimble GPS Pathfinder Office Software: “PRJ” Projection File Export for ArcGIS 10.1 or Later

With the release of ArcGIS 10.1 and 10.2 the Coordinate System Projection files were not included.  If you did not save or cannot find your Projection files from previous installs of older ArcGIS Software we included them in a previous blog post.

See prior Seiler Mapping post from 6/7/12:  Where to find the Projection files for Coordinate Systems to use for Trimble GPS Pathfinder Office export?   OR you can try this option below per a Trimble MGIS Support note.

Now there is tool that will allow you to extract a “PRJ” Projection file from an existing ArcGIS Map document:

  • The Trimble® GPS Pathfinder Office® software can export Shape files with .prj files when using the Export utility.
  • An ArcMap Add-In is available to extract the .prj file from an open ArcMap map document (.mxd) to allow GPS Pathfinder Office software users to browse to the required .prj file for use in their Export workflow.  In this support note are download instructions and step by step instructions to use this Add-In tool.
  • See this Trimble MGIS Support Note as of October 22nd 2013:  PRJ File Extraction Add-In for ArcMap   If this link doesn’t open the PDF then you can locate it via the Trimble GPS Pathfinder Office Support Note website  and click on the following: v5.x Support Notes, Export Issues.
  • In this support note are download and step by step instructions to use this Add-In tool in ArcMap.
